Why Great Performers fall back on Objectivity?

We have come across stalwarts and ingenious performers who are just excellent at their job – from their goals and aims to handle the stress, we perceive their life to be perfect. However, it isn’t as it seems to be. “The best men often lose their objectivity in pursuit of excellence.” This quote is from Rocket Boys, a web series based on two renowned scientists of India – Dr. Homi J. Bhabha and Dr. Vikram Sarabhai. The story revolves around the three crucial decades in the history of India. In 1963, Dr. Sarabhai and his team discovered a technical issue just 30 minutes before the launch of India’s first rocket. Despite attempts to correct the problem, the team fails to resolve the issue and Dr. Sarabhai decides to cancel the launch. At that moment, Dr. Bhabha stops him, helps them solve the issue and India finally launched its rocket into space manually.

What do Great Performers have in mind?

After this, I wondered how the best minds function. Do you know what the remarkable people expect? When I looked at examples from Edison to Tesla and even Archimedes, all these had one thing in common. The way they visualized their goals and the hunger to achieve them was far more intense than the mob. Despite their accomplishments and commitment, they often juggled between uncertainty and the hunt for evidence to do better. Great performers ought to have higher expectations from themselves and others, and this creates an environment where they neglect the fair and impartial opinions that could have sorted their problems.

How do we miss out on the obvious?

Objectivity is associated with ideas such as facts, reality, and reliability. “Objectivity” and “Subjectivity” relate to a perceiving subject and a perceived or unperceived object. The solutions that likely exist are independent of the subject’s perception. Life today has not changed much and we humans frequently get stuck in this quicksand where we lose the objectivity to get ourselves out of the problem. We ignore the present by trading it with the dreams of the future. If we look through our lives from a different lens, we can see and consider the aspects of what is present in front of our eyes.

Conclusion

We are a culmination of our choices and decisions. Great men and performers are not born into well-to-do families or societies. Great men are born by keeping determination, commitment, and perseverance as their chisels and hammers to shape their goals into reality. Taking a close look at the objectives of the hurdle can get us out while still heeding the subjectivity and opinions of others.
